Springtime Awakening
This is another group of Iris that I took in Billings Montana. I love how the purples and yellows really glow with depth and vibrancy. I had the photo all ready to go for the last few years, but I was really nervous about how I was going to approach painting the flowers in watercolor, and the very out of focus background. I was so glad I finally decided to paint it! It was a huge challenge, but one I really enjoyed! I love painting in watercolors. I love the way the colors glow through each layer and fill with light, like stained glass.
All my watercolor paintings are painted on Arches 300# cold-pressed, bright white watercolor paper. Arches paper is archival and acid-free. I use M. Graham and Winsor and Newton's professional watercolor paints. The colors I used on this painting were Permanent magenta PR122, Ultramarine blue PB29, Nickle azo yellow Py150, and Quinacridone Rose PV19. My colors are permanent and archival and will not fade or change color! I will never paint with fugitive colors no matter how beautiful or vibrant they are. It is important to me that my paintings will last a lifetime and beyond with the proper care and attention.
